COUPLES COUNSELLING IN TRENTON, ONTARIO
IN-PERSON COUPLES COUNSELLING IN QUINTE WEST & ONLINE COUPLES THERAPY
The same argument, again.
It starts with something small, the dishes or a comment about the day, and within minutes you're back in the same fight you've had a hundred times. Or maybe the fighting has stopped and it's just quiet now. You're both busy, you're both tired, and you can't remember the last time you really talked.
You might still love each other and feel completely disconnected at the same time. You might be trying to rebuild trust after infidelity, or deciding whether to stay together at all.
If you're the one who reached out first, that's a fine place to start. It's often how couples counselling begins.
How couples counselling can help.
When couples come in, they're usually focused on the latest argument. Underneath it there's often a pattern that keeps repeating, where one person pulls away, the other pushes harder, and you both end up feeling unheard. It can feel like you're stuck on the merry-go-round together.
Couples counselling gives you a place to slow that pattern down and see it clearly. Our couples therapists help you understand what each of you is feeling and needing underneath the conflict, and find new ways of responding to each other. We work with you on communication, disconnection, trust and separation, at a pace that works for both of you.
Who You’ll See
Rebecca Davey, MSW, RSW, works with couples on communication, rebuilding trust and relational challenges. She leads with warmth and humour, and draws on Emotion-Focused Therapy, mindfulness, CBT and solution-focused approaches. Rebecca also sees CAF members and their partners.
Elizabeth Bennett, RP, uses Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) with an attachment lens and works at your pace. She also works with neurodivergence and emotional dysregulation.
Some partners also see their own individual therapist here alongside couples sessions. Peter Berg, MDiv, RP (Qualifying), works with individuals on relationship conflict and infidelity, and offers evenings and Sundays.
What to Expect
Your first appointment is an 80-minute couples intake in person, where you and your therapist get to know each other, talk through what's been happening, and set goals together. After that, sessions are 50 minutes, in person or online, with day and evening times.
Most couples come weekly or every two weeks, often for several months. Every relationship is different, and your therapist will talk with you about the right rhythm as you go.
Infidelity and Rebuilding Trust
After an affair, it can feel like the ground has gone out from under you. One of you is hurt and unsure what's real. The other may be carrying guilt and not know what to say. Couples counselling gives you a steady place to have those conversations without causing more damage, and to decide together what comes next. Elizabeth Bennett, RP, works with couples after infidelity.
Couples Counselling for Military and Veteran Families in Trenton
Deployments are hard on a relationship. You pull apart before they leave, one of you carries everything while they're gone, and when they come home you have to find your roles and your closeness again. Then the next posting comes. CFB Trenton is down the road, and military couples are a big part of our practice.
Every therapist here works with military and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) families. Spouses of veterans can often get sessions through VAC, and we direct bill Canada Life for military spouses and dependants. If one of you is a serving CAF member, couples sessions start with a base referral, and Rebecca sees those couples. Ask us on the call and we'll help you sort out what you're entitled to.
Counselling for Separating Couples
Not every couple comes in to stay together. If you're separating, counselling can help you communicate through the decisions ahead, especially when there are kids involved. Families going through separation or divorce can also work with Taylor Raas, MSW, RSW, in family sessions after school.
Online Couples Counselling
Some weeks, getting both of you out the door at the same time is the hardest part. Couples sessions after the intake can be online. Our psychotherapists can see you anywhere in Canada, and our social workers anywhere in Ontario, so if you're posted away from Trenton you can keep the same therapist.
What Couples Counselling Costs
The couples intake is $285 for 80 minutes, in person. Couples sessions after that are $190 for 50 minutes, in person or online. The 15-minute consultation is free.
We direct bill Manulife, Canada Life and Medavie Blue Cross. Many workplace benefit plans cover therapy with a psychotherapist or social worker. Check with your provider that your plan covers couples sessions, and whether it covers a psychotherapist (RP) or a social worker (RSW), since that can decide who you see.
