Everyone Deserves To Have An Hour Dedicated To Them, Where They Can Learn That Change Is Possible.

If you are struggling with low self-worth, anxiety, depression, and signs of past trauma, you are not alone.

Life isn’t feeling good right now.

That constant feeling of dread follows you around, no matter what you are doing, even as you struggle to find the connection behind the anxiety.

Perhaps it's there when you are working, spending time with family, trying to relax at home, or engaging in self-care; that nagging feeling continues to persist, seemingly never going away. Then you start to feel anxious about the anxiety itself, never knowing when you will be able to calm down or when it may happen, making the anxiety and fear worse.

If you are experiencing this right now, you may feel like there is no way out, that this is how you will always feel. The way you feel can change; you can experience life better. You just need the right guidance and support to make it happen.

How therapy can help.

In our daily lives, we often ignore the signs of rising stress or are simply unaware due to the demands we face, until our stress can no longer be ignored and catches up in a big way.

That's when childhood experiences start to resurface, possibly impacting our ability to cope, making each day feel horrible.

Through therapy, however, you can get back in touch with those emotions, so you stop resisting and instead accept them. When you stop resisting, they lose their power, and you can start to truly feel better.

The time for change is here.

Our approach at McKinnon Psychotherapy and Counselling focuses on uncovering the root causes of anxiety and feelings of overwhelm.

We work collaboratively with you to identify triggers and patterns that may be keeping you stuck on the merry-go-round.
By addressing these underlying issues, we aim to facilitate lasting changes in how you experience life.

Imagine waking up feeling a sense of ease, knowing you have regained control of your life, feeling confident to move forward, and allowing overwhelming feelings to occur without letting them take over.
You can wake up actually looking forward to the day.

If you're ready, let's start this together, towards experiencing life more fully.

Our Specialities:

Attachment Therapy

You don't need to know what to call it before you reach out. Our psychotherapists and social workers see adults, couples, families, children and teens on Front Street in downtown Trenton, and online across Canada. On your free call, tell us what's been going on and we'll match you with the clinician who fits you, your schedule and your insurance.

Psychotherapy and Counselling for Adults in Trenton

Worry that won't switch off. A low mood that's hung around for months. Being harder on yourself than you'd ever be on a friend, and wondering why you can't just handle it. We see adults one-on-one for [anxiety], depression, [low self-esteem], grief, loneliness and big life changes, using [psychodynamic], attachment-based, CBT and DBT approaches. We also work with neurodivergent adults, including adults with ADHD or autism, and Jennifer Ego, RP, and Peter Berg, MDiv, RP (Qualifying), both see clients through grief. Appointments run from early morning to about 9:30 pm, plus Sundays, so therapy can fit around shift work.

Couples and Marriage Counselling in Trenton

The same argument, again. Or the quiet after you've stopped arguing. Couples come to us to talk without it turning into a fight, to rebuild trust after infidelity, or to work through a separation. Often one partner reaches out first, and that's a fine place to start. Rebecca Davey, MSW, RSW, and Elizabeth Bennett, RP, who uses Emotionally Focused Therapy, see couples in person or online, days or evenings.

Family Counselling in Trenton

When home is tense, everyone feels it, and you can't fix it on your own no matter how hard you try. Usually a parent calls about a child or teen, then becomes part of the work and takes tools home. Taylor Raas, MSW, RSW, sees parents and kids together after school. Daria Pool, MSW, RSW, and Larissa Doidge, RP (Qualifying), work with children and give parents their own support with parenting, so the whole family gets help, not only the child. If a family needs two clinicians, we can book them at the same day and time, so it's one trip.

Child and Teen Therapy in Trenton

You know your child, and you can see something's off. We see children from age 6, often through play, with parents kept in the loop. Teens 12 and up get their own time and their own privacy. We don't do ADHD or autism assessments, but we support your child and family while you figure it out. After-school and evening times are available, and many teens like to look through the clinician bios first. Therapy for Teenagers

EMDR and Trauma Therapy in Trenton

Some things don't stay in the past. A tone of voice or a certain kind of day, and your body reacts before you can think. It isn't you overreacting. Daria Pool, MSW, RSW, and Elizabeth Bennett, RP, offer EMDR, a structured therapy for trauma, for childhood trauma, complex PTSD and single events that still replay. Daria also works with children.

Counselling for Military and Veteran Families in Trenton

If you're a military family, you know the cycle: pulling apart before a deployment, carrying everything alone while they're gone, then finding your roles again when they're home, and doing it all again with the next posting. CFB Trenton is down the road, and families like yours are a big part of our practice. Every therapist here works with military families and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) clients. We direct bill Canada Life for military spouses and dependants, and Medavie Blue Cross for veterans through VAC. Spouses and children of veterans can often get sessions through VAC too. Serving members come to us through a base referral. Ask us on the call.

Online Therapy Across Canada

Some weeks, getting out the door is the hard part. Or you'd rather talk from your own couch. About a quarter of our sessions last year were online. Our psychotherapists can see you anywhere in Canada, and our social workers anywhere in Ontario. Some of our clinicians work fully online.

What Therapy Costs, and What's Covered

Cost shouldn't be the reason you put this off another month. Individual sessions are $175 to $195, couples sessions $190, and the 15-minute consultation is free. Most workplace benefit plans cover therapy with a psychotherapist or social worker. We direct bill Manulife, Canada Life and Medavie Blue Cross, and sliding-scale sessions are available with our Student Therapist. Rates & FAQ
